Two Dodge Viper ACRs were recently shipped to the Nurburgring and are attempting to set a new production car lap record at the circuit.
Last month, one Viper ACR popped up at the circuit and while we’ve since learnt that it was there at the hands of a private owner, Bridge To Gantry reports that the two Vipers in question are part of a crowdfunding campaign to set a new record.
In January, a Go Fund Me page was launched and it recently surpassed its $159,000 goal, allowing the enthusiast-run campaign to become a reality.
Both the Vipers have been loaned out by Viper Exchange and come complete with the Extreme aerodynamics package. There are also two seasoned racing drivers piloting the duo and it is said that the two cars have been testing at the circuit for a number of weeks.
If a new road-legal record is to be set, the Viper ACR will have to beat the 6:43.2 time of the McLaren P1 LM. However, to set a series production car record, the Lamborghini Huracan Performante’s 6:52 lap must be broken.
Will it happen? Watch this space.
