The Aston Martin DB11 Volante has been spied undergoing testing on the Nürburgring ahead of its launch next spring.
Looking virtually identical to the coupe, the Volante eschews the metal roof of its corporate counterpart for a retractable canvas top. This required a number of modifications so the convertible has been equipped with unique side glass and a new rear deck that accommodates the roof.
That resulting design might not be as handsome as the coupe but few owners will care when they’re enjoying a relaxing drive with the top down.
Like the coupe, the DB11 Volante is expected to be offered with two different engines. The entry-level model should be powered by an AMG-sourced twin-turbo 4.0-liter V8 that develops 503 bhp (375 kW) and 695 Nm (513 lb-ft) of torque. Buyers looking for something more powerful can opt for a twin-turbo 5.2-liter V12 engine that produces 600 hp (447 kW) and 700 Nm (516 lb-ft) of torque.
Convertibles typically weigh more than their hardtop brethren so the V8 model will likely accelerate from 0-62 mph (0-100 km/h) in a little over 4.0 seconds. Likewise, the V12 model should be a tad slower than the coupe which accomplishes the same task in 3.9 seconds.
