Despite having some serious competition not only from Ford and Honda, but also from Audi and Mercedes, the Volkswagen Golf R remains a favorite among many enthusiasts.
And who can blame them, since reviews of the German compact hot hatch show that the Golf R is one of the best cars in the contested hot-hatch segment.
The latest iteration sits in line with the rest of the Golf family, which was facelifted last year, and benefits from the same visual updates, albeit on a more aggressive scale, in addition to some interior modifications.
However, the most important mod lies in the engine compartment, where the 2.0-liter four-cylinder turbocharged unit now makes an extra 10PS (10hp) and 20Nm (15lb-ft) of torque. The total output stands at 310PS (306hp) and 400Nm (295lb-ft) of torque, which translates into a naught to 100km/h (62mph) acceleration of 4.6sec.
The 2018 VW Golf R particularly looks its best with the throttle abused, as in the short film posted by AutoTopNL, which shows it on the Autobahn, reaching speeds of over 260km/h (162mph), and doing a few short acceleration bursts, in between the static images.
