BMW has confirmed that it will launch a Competition Package version of the 2018 M5.

During an interview with Motor 1 at the Frankfurt Motor Show, BMW product executive for large cars, Andy Cook, said the Competition Package will include a host of upgrades over the entry-level model.

“The Competition Package will bring tweaked dynamics, and likely standard ceramic brakes – which are a $10,000 option on the standard car,” he said.

The BMW M5 Competition Package is expected to launch next year and could follow in the footsteps of the M4 Competition Package with upgrades beyond simply carbon ceramic brakes.

The most significant change between the M4 and M4 Competition Package is the latter’s use of Adaptive M Suspension with new springs, dampers and anti-roll bars. If a similar setup were used for the M5 Competition Package, the finished product may drive quite differently to the regular model.

Other changes to the M5 Competition Package could include bespoke wheels and some interior tweaks.
