The strip tease continues as a lightly camouflaged BMW X3 M has been caught undergoing testing on the Nürburgring.
Set to battle the Audi RS Q5 and Mercedes-AMG GLC 63, the high-performance crossover follows in the footsteps of the standard model but adopts a sporty front bumper with large air intakes. Additional styling changes are minimal but we can see a larger rear spoiler, a reworked rear bumper, and a familiar four-tailpipe exhaust system.
Since the X3 M was designed for maximum performance, we can expect an assortment of M-specific equipment including a sport-tuned suspension and a high-performance braking system. The model should also be offered with launch control and specially-tuned electronics.
The X3 M will slot above the X3 M40i which has a 3.0-liter TwinPower Turbo six-cylinder engine that develops 360 PS (264 kW) and 500 Nm (369 lb-ft) of torque. It enables the model to accelerate from 0-100 km/h (0-62 mph) in 4.8 seconds before hitting a limited top speed of 250 km/h (155 mph).
Little is known about what will power the X3 M but speculation suggests the model could be equipped with a new S58 engine that develops up to 460 PS (338 kW).
