It was only last year that Bugatti rolled out the Chiron, which in the grand scheme of the House That Ettore Built, still makes it new. In fact, we’re still finding out just what it can do.
Speaking at a roundtable discussion among journalists at the Frankfurt Motor Show last week, Bugatti CEO Wolfgang Dürheimer indicated that work will soon begin on a next-generation hypercar.
“Chiron will be with us for quite some time,” Dürheimer said, according to Road & Track. “So the question, what is the next one, needs to be answered in 2019. Next year is a pre-development year where we evaluate the different ideas.”
While the Chiron, with its pair of e-chargers, benefits more from electric assist than the Veyron did, their successor is expected to go more hybrid still – though Dürheimer remained non-committal. “Electrification also might be a topic for Bugatti. It’s not decided yet, but we have interesting alternatives. The race will go on. We will go faster, quicker, and be better in every dimension.”
Before the Chiron’s replaced, though, we might expect a more potent Super Sport version, and possible a convertible variant to follow – much as they did with the Veyron.
