As cars slowly move away from fossil fuels and major driver input on the road in the next decade, their interiors are bound to become more stylish and in a way, less functional.
Today’s car interiors are designed to be practical and useful, with functionality being a main factor, since the driver needs to be able to execute multiple types of commands manually.
In the future, however, things should change, with some people suggesting that the interior of your car will be a place where you can relax, work or enjoy the vehicle’s many interactive functions.
This particular rendering was posted to Behance and comes courtesy of Ray Yu, a designer who took the modern day Cadillac CTS, looked at its interior design features (like the trapezoid structures and driver-centric layout), and made a couple of changes.
Just kidding, he made more than a couple. In fact, if it wasn’t for the badge on the folding steering wheel, you probably wouldn’t know what type of car this was. A closer look however does reveal some classic Cadillac features, although we wouldn’t bet on this type of futuristic design being ready within the next 8 years – since 8 years ago car interiors were more or less the same as they are today.
Overall, there are plenty of things to like about these designs, especially if you’re into these next-level speedboat-like aesthetics. Also, the seats feature embedded displays directly into the hard wood frame, while the windshield basically becomes a new screen once Autonomous mode is activated. Not a bad way to spend your day.
