Chery Automobile has released more details on the upcoming new compact SUV which is set to debut at the Frankfurt Motor Show.

The Chinese car maker will try to break into the European market with a new SUV that will be available in plug-in hybrid and all-electric versions.

Chery claims that the PHEV version a 0-62mph (100km/h) in 6 seconds and a 124mph (200km/h) top speed. Average fuel consumption will be 1.8lt/100km (157 mpg UK) on the outdated NEDC cycle, while the battery pack can be fast-charged to 80 percent in 30 minutes. A full charged from a domestic 220V supply will take four hours.

The new compact SUV will be based on an also new platform that was designed specifically for the new model range aimed at Europe. The all-wheel drive system has been co-developed with Dana and BorgWarner while the transmissions are supplied from Getrag.

A 10-inch infotainment system will provide access to standard features like smartphone connectivity, voice recognition, built-in WiFi and Chery’s ‘E call’ emergency assistance service. An intelligent navigation with real-time traffic information will also be on offer.

A range of driver’s assistance systems will also be present and will include a 360-degree round-view camera, smart opening trunk and park assist technologies. Chery also says that it expects a five-star rating on the EuroNCAP crash test, with their new car featuring collision protection system, lane departure warning, blind spot warning and speed limiter systems, among others.

The Chinese car maker is set to open new Design and R&D facilities in Europe that will help them accelerate their plans for global expansion.
