Ford has equipped the Focus RS with a mechanical Quaife limited-slip differential, plus a bunch of other features, and is now selling it in the United Kingdom as a special edition model priced from £35,795 ($47,453).
The mechanical upgrade is said to provide “more traction and driving appeal for performance driving enthusiasts”, as it limits the engine torque fed to a wheel that has reduced traction, redistributing it to the wheel with more traction.
This counteracts the wheelspin, and allows drivers to exploit the full 350PS (345hp) made by the 2.3-liter EcoBoost on the track.
It also integrates with other performance technologies such as the all-wheel drive with front-to-rear torque distribution, Dynamic Torque Vectoring, and Torque Vectoring Control.
“For hardcore driving enthusiasts, the additional mechanical grip, offered by the Quaife LSD, will make it even easier to carry speed through a corner on the track, and maximize acceleration on the way out”, said Europe Ford Performance Director, Leo Roeks. “The new setup also delivers greater mechanical stability and control when braking hard, and will help drivers set the car up for power-slides, using Drift Mode.”
Ford has painted the new Focus RS Edition in Nitrous Blue, with a matte black roof, rear spoiler, and mirror caps, and added the blue RS logos on the spoiler wide wings. The hot hatch also gets 19-inch alloy wheels with RS center caps that spin around the Brembo brakes, with four-piston monoblock calipers, finished in the distinctive blue, which carry the brake specialist’s logo.
Other equipment added to the car includes the privacy glass, Recaro seats with Nitrous Blue leather applications inside, carbon fiber trim, heated steering wheel, cruise control with speed limiter, Ford KeyFree system, electric folding mirrors, rear parking sensors, and Active City Stop.
