Presented last month and displayed at the 2017 Frankfurt Motor Show, the new Ferrari Portofino wants to be king of the GT segment.
It replaces the California T, and comes with a styling inspired by the Prancing Horse’s latest exotics, to which it adds an open-top view of the sky, in the shape of an electrically operated folding soft top that disappears into the boot area.
The Ferrari Portofino maintains its predecessor’s front engine, rear-wheel drive layout, and it continues to use the 3.9-liter twin-turbo V8 engine, though massaged to deliver 600PS (592hp) and 760Nm (561lb-ft) of torque to the ground. Naught to 100km/h (62mph) takes 3.5 seconds, a 0.1sec improvement over the California T, and top speed stands at more than 320km/h (199mph).
But all this talk about numbers would be nothing without experiencing its grunt helped by its first commercial, which shows the Portofino in different environments, highlighting its practicality and sheer power.
The video was apparently shot in Slovenia, and it portrays the entry-level Ferrari as the perfect Grand Tourer. We don’t know if that’s true, but we should find out soon, once the first reviews start hitting the web.
