A truly stunning 1955 Ferrari 750 Monza by Scaglietti has been sold for €3.375 million ($4 million) at an RM Sotheby’s auction in Italy.
The car was originally sold to one Count Bruno Sterzi of Milan in April 1955 and the following year, changed hands to Ottavio Guarducci who raced the car at the Trofeo Vigorelli in March of 1965 at Monza. Later that year, the 750 Monza competed at the San Bernardo hillclimb and the Grand Prix of Venezuela where it finished fifth in class.
The following year, the car raced at the Cuban Grand Prix in Havana and was fitted with an aerodynamic fin similar to the Jaguar D-Type.
In the late 1950’s, the original engine was removed and in 1961, the 750 was badly damaged in a crash. It was lovingly repaired and returned to Italian shores in 1983. In 2000, Emilio Comelli of Brescia purchased the racer and for the following five years, it was restored and fitted with a correct 750 Monza four-cylinder engine.
In more recent times it has competed at the Mille Miglia Storica in 2011, 2013, 2014 and 2015.
