Jaguar’s chances of winning in Formula E have taken a big step forward as the team has signed Nelson Piquet, Jr. to drive next season.

The son of three-time Formula One world champion Nelson Piquet and a former F1 driver in his own right, Nelsinho won the inaugural Formula E championship in 2015.

He also scored a second-place finish in the 2008 German Grand Prix, won the 2004 British Formula 3 title, and even won a handful of NASCAR races. Since winning the electric-racing championship in 2015, he’s kept at it with the same team (which will race next year under the NIO banner). But now Piquet’s been picked up by Jaguar instead for the season ahead.

There he’ll join Kiwi driver Mitch Evans, winner of the GP3 series in 2012 and a solid rookie performer this season in Formula E. This past season Evans, consistently outperformed his teammate Adam Carroll, the British driver and A1GP champ whose place at Jaguar Piquet now takes. The announcement was made at the unveiling of the new Jaguar I-Type 2 that Piquet and Evans will race in the coming season, following by the new I-Pace eTrophy support races.
