Jaguar Land Rover intends on launching a whole new family of models dubbed Road Rover by the year 2020.
Autocar reports that the first model from the Road Rover family will be an all-electric vehicle with all-terrain abilities and interior luxury to rival that of the Mercedes-Benz S-Class. Thanks to the electric motors, it should also offer impressive performance and handling. In fact, a range of around 300 miles (482 km) seems likely, as does a 0-60 mph (96 km/h) time of less than 5 seconds.
Few other details about this first Road Rover model are known but it will apparently be launched at the Los Angeles Auto Show in late 2019 before hitting the market at the start of 2020. It will also be joined by a fleet of other vehicles that combine on-road poise with off-road ruggedness.
It is reported that bosses at Jaguar Land Rover have concluded that the best way to increase sales will be to make the most of the SUV and crossover boom and therefore push forward with a range of all-electric crossovers.
The name ‘Road Rover’ has some history for Land Rover. In the 1950s, the name was used by an experimental model created to slot between Rover cars and Land Rover vehicles.
