Fiat Chrysler Automobiles chief executive Sergio Marchionne has confirmed that the automaker hasn’t received any offers and isn’t actively working on any deals with Chinese companies.
While attending the Italian Grand Prix on Saturday, Marchionne told the media that he remains focused on the company’s existing business plan through to 2018 and doesn’t have any offers on the table, Reuters reports.
A couple of weeks ago, Chinese automaker Great Wall revealed its interest in purchasing Jeep from FCA but no discussions have been held between the companies.
According to Marchionne, his focus remains on purifying the brand’s portfolio and that could include separating the Magneti Marelli components supplier from FCA.
“There are activities within the group that do not belong to a car manufacturer, for example the components businesses. The group needs to be cleared of those things,” he revealed.
The Italian-Canadian businessman also doused speculation about Alfa Romeo or Maserati being spun off.
“The way we see it now, it’s almost impossible, if not impossible, to see a spin-off of Alfa Romeo/Maserati, these are two entities that are immature and in a development phase. It’s the wrong moment, we are not in a condition to do it,” he said.
