The 2018 Porsche 911 GT2 RS has reportedly lapped the Nurburgring in less than 7 minutes.
A couple of days ago, the German automaker took over the circuit and on Wednesday evening, apparently set a lap that will put the Lamborghini Huracan Performante under pressure.
Bridge to Gantry was on the scene and says that it snapped pictures of the 700 hp GT2 RS at the start of the lap and at the end and that there was only 6 minutes and 56 seconds between them, making the car faster than the Porsche 918 Spyder.
Importantly, the photographer notes that the actual lap time was probably closer to 6:54 or less due to the fact that the image of the GT2 RS completing its lap was snapped shortly after it crossed the finish line. What’s more, it is reported that this sub-7-minute lap was one of just many flying laps the company did of the circuit a couple days ago.
If the 911 GT2 RS sets a time quicker than the 6:52 of the Huracan Performante, it will set a new lap record for a globally homologated production car (the McLaren P1 LM and NIO EP9 don’t count).
Stay tuned for more about Porsche’s recent Nurburgring escapades in the coming days and weeks.
