Even though the new Panamera Turbo is one of the fastest-launching four-door cars in the world, the 2018 Mercedes-AMG E63 S is not only more powerful, but also lighter.
So, will that be enough though to have it impose its will over the much-celebrated and more expensive new Panamera? That’s exactly what the guys from EVO wanted to find out.
They wanted to see not only if the E63 S will beat the Panamera Turbo in a short straight line race, but also by how much, being that there’s a sizable difference in both horsepower and torque to consider.
On paper, here’s how it looks: 612 PS (604 HP) and 850 Nm (627 lb-ft) for the E63 S, and 550 PS (542 HP) and 770 Nm (567 lb-ft) for the Porsche. The Mercedes is also half a second quicker to 100 km/h (62 mph), while weighing 115 kg (253 lbs) less.
During this drag race, EVO found that both cars hit 60 mph (96 km/h) in exactly 3.4 seconds, with slight separation occurring once they started accelerating past 100 mph (160 km/h).
While the standing 1/4 mile times were extremely close, their 0-160 mph (257 km/h) times weren’t. Also, if you’re curious to know how the two compare on a track, check out this review.
