Tesla’s Supercharger network could eventually be expanded to include convenience stores.
According to Restaurant Business, Tesla chief technology officer Jeffrey Straubel told attendees of the FSTEC conference “People are coming and spending 20 to 30 minutes at these stops. They want to eat, they want to have a cup of coffee, and they want to use the bathroom.”
The executive then showed an overhead view of a supercharger station that appeared to feature a convenience store. He backed up this theory by saying “They’re starting to look a lot like convenience stops, it’s amazing how quickly things are evolving.”
Despite this, Straubel said the company wasn’t interested in running a restaurant. However, he noted “We already have been working with restaurants” and “that can only start scaling up.”
While traditional vehicles only take a few minutes to refuel, electric vehicles take significantly longer and sitting in your car waiting for it to charge isn’t exactly a thrilling experience. Having a store, somewhat similar to a gas station, would be an improvement as it would give owners a place to go and grab something to eat or drink.
