The semi-finalists for the 2018 North American Car, Truck and Utility of the Year awards have been confirmed.
The awards will be voted on by 60 expert print and broadcast journalists and the nominees were announced in July. Since then, a handful of vehicles have fallen out of contention before back-to-back tests next month and the announcement of finalists at the Los Angeles Auto Show.
In the car category, the Honda Clarity and Tesla Model 3 are the only two nominees to be cut from the pack of semi-finalists. Interestingly, the Kia Rio has been announced a semi-finalist despite not being on the original nominations list.
The Utility of the Year segment is much more crowded. In total, 15 of the 20 nominees have progressed to the semi-finals. Those that missed out were the GMC Terrain, Range Rover Velar, Mini Countryman, Nissan Rogue Sport and Toyota CH-R.
In the Truck of the Year category, all three nominees have progressed to the semi-finals. They are the Chevrolet Colorado ZR2, Ford Expedition and Lincoln Navigator.
