TVR is known for its mad sports cars and the new Griffith apparently honors the tradition as exhibited by this short clip showing the company’s boss Les Edgar getting a first taste of the new Griffith.
The short drive took place at Gordon Murray Design’s carpark apparently, where the reborn Griffith showed it’s capable of spinning its tires with little effort, causing the TVR boss to have a slightly NFSW moment before bursting to laughs.
Unlike old TVRs that never came with any stability aid -not even ABS-, the new Griffith will be offered with a switchable ESC but that doesn’t mean it won’t offer some serious thrills behind its wheel.
After all, this is a car that tips the scales at 1250kg (2755lbs) and gets powered by a Cosworth-tuned Ford V8 with around 500hp. TVR says it offers a perfect, 50-50 weight distribution to go with the Griffith’s 400hp/tonne power-to-weight ratio. A six-speed manual gearbox will be the only transmission choice as well.
0-62mph (100km/h) will come in less than four seconds, with the top speed set north of 200mph (321km/h). The chassis has been engineered by the father of the McLaren F1, Gordon Murray, utilizing the iStream process. This includes a steel and aluminum frame with bonded carbon composite sections and an all-carbon bodywork to keep the weight down and the rigidity up.
The first customer cars will be delivered in 2019, so let’s hope that the new Griffith will prove to be as good as it sounds.
