Volkswagen plans on introducing a new van in 2021 to replace the Golf SV and Touran.

German publication Autobild reports that the German automaker has decided it doesn’t need the Golf SV, Touran, Caddy, Caddy Maxi, Sharan and T6 in its van family and will reduce that fleet by one model following the introduction of this new model, reportedly dubbed the Variosport.

It is speculated that the Variosport will come with three rows of seats as standard but be offered in a more luxurious guise that consists of four or five larger seats and more interior space.

The underpinnings of the Variosport could be borrowed from the eighth-generation Golf and while many traditional vans incorporate sliding doors at the rear, the Variosport will instead consist of four traditional doors.

Design wise, the replacement to the Golf SV and Touran should adopt a sleek design with a coupe-like roofline and measure approximately 4.7 meters long.

Like most VW models, customers of the Variosport will have a number of powertrains to choose from. These will include a range of 1.5-liter and 2.0-liter four-cylinders in both petrol and diesel guises. Additionally, a plug-in hybrid version with an electric range of between 50 and 100 km will be on offer.
