As part of Motor Trend’s annual Best Driver’s Car competition, the publication organizes what it dubs the “world’s greatest drag race.” Now in its seventh year, the race has morphed into an event many patiently wait 12 months to see.
The line-up for this year’s race is one of the best in recent memory. It includes the Alfa Romeo Giulia Quadrifoglio, Aston Martin DB11, Chevrolet Camaro ZL1 1LE, Chevrolet Corvette Grand Sport, Ferrari 488 GTB, Lexus LC500, McLaren 570GT, Mercedes-AMG GT R, Nissan GT-R Nismo, Porsche 718 Cayman S, Porsche 911 Turbo S and a Tesla Model S P100D.
If you’re thinking “why is a Tesla in a best driver’s car competition?” we don’t blame you. It wasn’t. Instead, the competition featured the Mazda MX-5 RF but it was supplemented by the Tesla in the drag race, for obvious reasons.
The race was held at Vandenberg Air Force Base and if you know anything about cars, there’s only a select few cars that have any chance of winning. Namely, the Tesla, the 911 Turbo S, the GT-R, 570GT and 488 GTB.
But which of these will take the crown?
