If you’re in the market for a 90’s piece of AMG engineering, the C 36 AMG is about as good as they get.
Built as a direct response to the BMW M3, the C 36 AMG was the first product co-developed by Mercedes and AMG after the tuner became a subsidiary of Daimler-Benz.
Features for the car include AMG interior bits, a lowered race tuned suspension, a four-speed automatic gearbox for U.S. buyers, and an in-line six 3.6-liter engine pushing down around 280 HP.
Mercedes replaced this version with the V8-powered C 43 AMG in late 1997, although if you ask Tyler Hoover, he’ll take the in-line six C 36 over the C 43 any day of the week, saying that it’s more fun to drive.
While, Matt Farah didn’t necessarily mirror that statement, he did admit to enjoy driving the C 36, and by the end of the video, you can tell he’s a fan of the car, having driven a similar one with far fewer miles in the past, and saying that both cars drove the same – which is a testament to how well these things hold up over time.
With a decent enough soundtrack and a 0 to 60 mph (96 km/h) acceleration time of just under 6 seconds, we can’t imagine the C 36 being anything other than engaging to drive.
