Mercedes-Benz has had two of its vehicles listed among the latest Top Safety Pick + ratings from the Insurance Institute for Highway Safety. And now it has added one more.

The IIHS put the new GLC through its full battery of tests for the first time, and true to Benz’s reputation for safety, it has come out on top.

The compact luxury crossover scored top “good” ratings on all five of the crash tests: small overlap front, moderate overlap front, side, roof strength and head restraints. It also scored a “superior” rating for its Collision Prevention Assist Plus system, with positive results for its headlights as well.

Both the E-Class and GLE crossover came away with the same rating, while the C-Class took a Top Safety Pick (sans the “plus”) for 2017. It’s joined among its competitors in the top rankings, including the Acura RDX, Audi Q5, Lexus NX, and Volvo XC60, all of which also earned the Top Safety Pick + award.

The last time its predecessor was put through the full array of tests, the GLK earned a Top Safety Pick award, but missed out on the Plus rating – which just goes to show that Mercedes takes these criteria seriously and has worked hard to ace the test with the new model.
