Well, well, well… what do we have here? Looks like an Audi R8 to us, but not just any R8. Looks like this one’s packing some secrets.
Spotted by our guys at CarPix while undergoing testing, this R8 prototype resembles any other up front, but like an octane-fueled mullet, the back end tells a very different story.
Aside from the fresh set of split-five-spoke wheels, we can discern through the camouflage wrap covering the tail that this black Audi supercar has much bigger exhaust tips.
And what’s that from which they’re protruding? Looks like a bigger diffuser, and above it – below the lights and behind the license plate – a large mesh grille for venting extra hot air out of the engine compartment.
All those signs point towards a more hardcore version of the Ingolstadt’s flagship, potentially to revive the R8 GT nameplate. We can’t help but wonder, though, what’s lying beneath. A more powerful version of the 5.2-liter V10? It already produces over 600 horsepower in the V10 Plus model, which is more than the previous model ever did.
And is it driving all four wheels like most R8s, or just the rear set like the new RWS just unveiled? We’ll have to wait to find out, but we’re looking forward to seeing what Audi Sport has in store.
