In order to challenge a beast like the Porsche 911 GT3 RS these days, you either have to be really stupid or really confident in your powers.

Mercedes-AMG has been playing hide and seek with Porsche for quite some time now but this is finally the time to see what they can really do with the very impressive AMG GT R.

Every bit on the car has been tuned for more performance, from the body that’s now lighter by 90kg (199lbs) to the rear-wheel steering system and from the massaged twin-turbo V8 to the trick aero agenda.

Nothing was left to chance with this beast and Mercedes-AMG has already set a very impressive lap time on the Nurburgring to convince the masses for the performance hiding under the GT R.

The twin-turbo 4.0-liter V8 now produces 577hp and 516lb-ft (700Nm) of peak torque, enabling the AMG GT R to accelerate from zero to 62mph (100km/h) in 3.6 seconds and hit 198mph (318km/h) flat out.

Autocar reviews AMG’s latest beast on some very wet UK roads and tries to find out if Mercedes has finally beaten the mighty Porsche 911 GT3 RS.
