BMW’s autonomous vehicle consortium has just welcomed its latest member, Magna International, North America’s largest auto-parts supplier.
Throughout this year, BMW has been aggressively pursuing partnerships to further autonomous technologies. It is already working with Intel, Mobileye, Delphi, Continental and Fiat Chrysler Automobiles and will now partner with Magna to customize computing systems that can be integrated by multiple car manufacturers.
In a statement, a board member for BMW Klaus Froehlich said, “We are very pleased to welcome Magna as the next major industry player to support our non-exclusive platform approach.”
Last week, the German brand said that it was looking for other automakers to join it and FCA to pool resources and create a scalable autonomous vehicle architecture. While BMW says it has spoken with multiple OEMs about joining the group, it remains unclear if any other announcements are imminent.
