These days, carmakers tend to make their new cars look like the ones they replace, but not Volkswagen, as the Arteon is all-new.

It serves as a replacement for the old CC, albeit on a more premium scale, with VW pitting it more directly against the likes of the BMW 4-Series Gran Coupe as well as its Ingolstadt cousin, the Audi A5 Sportback.

However, the Volkswagen Arteon basically feels like a more upscale Passat, CarBuyer found, though that’s not necessarily a bad thing, because the Passat is a very decent car. Still, the problem is that some might see the Arteon as a sporty four-door coupe, and there’s nothing really sporty about it, except the way it looks on the outside.

The cabin, on the other hand, is less special as the Arteon uses the exact same dashboard as the Passat. That’s not to say it doesn’t have its merits, because storage space is good, and so is rear legroom, but due to its sloping roofline, tall passengers might find themselves struggling for headroom.

So what should you consider when ordering the new Volkswagen Arteon? Well, the manufacturer offers it in two trim levels, and both of them are very well equipped, but if you want a sportier body kit, larger wheels, and sporty front seats, then you should go for the R Line. If you do this, you may also want to check the adaptive dampers from the options list, as they will make the ride more pleasant.
