Throughout the decades, numerous different versions of the Batmobile have appeared in print, on film and during TV series’. However, the Lincoln Futura-based Batmobile from the 1960s Batman series is arguably the most famous of them all.
Not radically different to the Futura Concept that formed the basis of it, the Batmobile was made distinct with its black paint scheme, bright red accents and the fake jet engine at the rear. Not too long ago, a period-correct replica was for sale for $250,000.
Thankfully, one doesn’t need to part with that much money to get the keys to their very own Batmobile. In this instance, $5,000 will suffice.
The Batmobile in question isn’t an authorized replica and instead based on a 1987 Ford Mustang and listed Craigslist. While it’s not the genuine article, the owner has gone to extraordinary lengths to mimic the look of the real thing.
The front end includes similar styling cues and pinstriping to the original while a set of flared arches and chrome wheels catch the eye from the side. Elsewhere, the huge fins over the rear wheel arches have been replicated and joined by three exhaust pipes protruding from the decklid.
Remarkably, the owner has even gone to the trouble of transforming the interior to somewhat resemble the TV icon.
Only the most dedicated Batman fan would ever think of purchasing this Mustang but considering the work that’s been done to it, $5,000 seems rather reasonable.
