Remember the Joker-themed BMW i8 art car that surfaced last summer? If you like what you saw we have good news, because it’s come up for sale.
The hybrid sports car was painted by German graffiti artist and comic-book fan Rene Turrek, whose work has previously included painting Marvel action heroes like the Hulk on a BMW X6 and Captain America on a Lamborghini Gallardo.
This time, Turrek’s work was patterned instead on a DC villain – namely Batman’s nemesis, the Joker. And his inspiration wasn’t Jack Nicholson’s or the late Heath Ledger, as one might have expected, but Jared Leto’s role in Suicide Squad.
The car looks like it’s painted in black, red, white, and green – but there’s more to it beneath the surface. Splash some hot water on the hood (or let the engine warm up) and the Joker’s face shines through. Flash it with light and you can see the word “haha” glow all over the bodywork. Press a button and an outline of the DC comic villain’s face lights up.
For all the work that’s been carried out, this i8 is not an officially sanctioned BMW art car. But it’s certainly unique, and it can be yours.
Faba Autowelt out of Mönchengladbach, Germany (near Düsseldorf) has it listed for sale on James Edition. With just under 5,000 miles (8,000 km) on the clock, it carries an asking price of €249,000, or about $310k at current exchange rates. With a brand new 2017 model carrying a $144,395 MSRP, this example’s price is definitely no laughing matter.
