By now Land Rover is on the fourth iteration of its flagship Range Rover – and that’s not even counting the Range Rover Sport, Velar, and Evoque. But to many, there’s nothing quite like the original.
Shame they stopped making it over two decades ago (at the end of nearly three decades of production). If you really want one though, and buying used isn’t an option, Jensen International Automotive can help.
The same company that still resto-mods old Interceptors has expanded into luxury off-roaders with what it calls the Range Rover Chieftain.
What looks like a Range Rover Classic is reportedly based in actuality on the Land Rover Discovery 3, overlaid with the iconic sheetmetal of the first-gen Range Rover, and backed up by serious muscle: under the hood is the 6.2-liter supercharged V8 out of the old Cadillac CTS-V, kicking out 556 horsepower and 551 lb-ft of torque.
It’s all channeled to the four corners through a six-speed automatic transmission and (in true Range Rover style) an adjustable independent air suspension. And the interior’s been thoroughly updated as well, complete with sat-nav, creamy leather, and all the modern accoutrements you’d expect from a luxury SUV today.
