The Bentley Flying Spur has been overshadowed by the Bentayga but the company is putting the finishing touches on an all-new model which is slated to go on sale next year.
Recently caught undergoing testing, the redesigned Flying Spur will follow in the footsteps of the latest Continental GT and adopt a sporty and upscale design. The front fascia appears virtually identical to the GT but the lower section is more conservative design which is in keeping with its sedan body style.
While the exterior styling will be pretty evolutionary, the cabin is another story. Like the GT, the Flying Spur is expected to have a digital instrument cluster and the all-new “rotating display.” The three-sided unit resides in the center stack and rotates to reveal a 12.3-inch touchscreen display, a veneered panel and three analogue dials that include a thermometer, a compass and a chronometer.
Other notable features should include a Bang & Olufsen premium audio system and 20-way power front seats with heating, cooling and massage functions. The model should also be offered with an assortment of driver assistance systems including Active Lane Assist, Traffic Jam Assist and Park Assist.
Engine options will be shared with the GT and include a 6.0-liter W12 that produces 626 hp (467 kW) and 664 lb-ft (900 Nm) of torque. It will be paired to an eight-speed dual-clutch transmission and a new active all-wheel drive system which can vary the front-to-rear torque split depending on conditions. In the GT, this setup enables the car to accelerate from 0-60 mph 3.6 seconds before hitting a top speed of 207 mph (333 km/h).
We can also expect a twin-turbo 4.0-liter V8. In the Bentayga, it produces 542 hp (404 kW) and 568 lb-ft (770 Nm) of torque.
