There are only a handful of tuners that dabble in modifying the BMW i8’s exterior, such as AC Schnitzer, Manhart and Lumma, plus a few other ones from the land of the Rising Sun.
Among those is Japanese firm 3D Design, who specializes in improving aero performance on models from BMW’s range, such as Series 1 through 7, the SUVs and both BMW i cars, with the highlight being, of course, the flagship i8.
Since the i8 is already looking unlike anything else on the streets, it didn’t take much for the tuner to take an already unique product and give it a more aggressive character.
Updates are comprised of a custom front lip spoiler, side skirts, rear diffuser and a massive rear wing, all made out of carbon fiber. The diffuser can be ordered either with or without the tuner’s own exhaust depending on the customer’s preferences.
Inside, there’s a set of Recaro sports seats, aluminum pedal set and carpet mats, all of them branded with 3D Design logos, as is the right paddle shifter.
Apart from the fixed rear wing, we find this tuning package suits the i8 just fine. However, in case you think it’s too subtle, then you might want to check out another Japanese tuner, Energy Motor Sport, and their wide-body kit.
