A prototype of the Mercedes-Benz GLB was filmed on the streets of Germany earlier this week.
The plastic cladding and camo forbids us from seeing its design, but we already know what to expect: a boxy-looking SUV, based on the same architecture as the brand’s upcoming compact models, including the new-gen GLA.
Previously referred to as the ‘baby G-Wagen’ due to its appearance, the new Mercedes-Benz GLB will sit above the GLA. It will be marketed as a roomier and more SUV-like alternative.
The interior of the small SUV will look familiar, and will adopt features from the new A-Class, including the dual-screen layout, with voice recognition, named Mercedes-Benz User Experience (MBUX).
The engine family will likely be carried over from the upcoming GLA, and include new and updated units developed by Daimler and Renault.
It’s unknown yet whether AMG plans to have its way with the GLB, but hybrid and plug-in hybrid versions of the vehicle are expected.
