Have you been fortunate enough in life to not only have the means to buy a new Ford GT, but to be allocated a build slot, too? Then you’ll have some choices to make.
Even before you get into your choice of wheels, brake-caliper colors, and interior treatments, you’ll have yo choose which color you want yours to be painted.
There’s eight standard paint colors, another eight colors of racing stripes to choose from (or decline), and contrasting finishes for the ground effects. Then there’s the silver Competition Series, and the Heritage Edition in three finishes. That’s nowhere near as extensive as the configurations available on some other big-ticket supercars, but it’s plenty to choose from.
There’s just one more exterior treatment available that we haven’t seen before. It’s called the Victory scheme, and it draws its inspiration from the competition-spec Ford GT LM GTE – like the ones that won their class at Le Mans and Daytona. The livery flies the red, white, and blue of the American flag with pride, even if the car is made in Canada. Dig the vibe? There’s just one catch: you have to be a Ford employee to get it.
Now at this point you might be thinking that the average assembly-line worker probably can’t afford the $450k price of admission, even with all the union benefits they’ve negotiated for. And you may be right. But there are plenty of folks on the Ford payroll who can. Like Raj Nair, president of Ford North America, who ordered up the one you see here.
Higher up the ladder, Bill Ford and Mark Fields got two of the first examples off the line. We wouldn’t be surprised to see Jim Hackett driving home in his own, either. And we’d wager there’s another dozen or so senior executives at the automaker who could shell out for one too, especially with an employee discount.
Even if every Ford employee who can get one does, in this special colorway, that’d still leave the Victory livery as something of a rarity. But then, with only 250 examples of the Ford GT to be made each year, it won’t be as small a proportion as you might think.
