Last week, we learned that Kia would be pairing Emerson Fittipaldi with another celebrity in their upcoming Stinger GT ad for this year’s Super Bowl. As it turns out, this celeb is none other than Aerosmith’s singer Steven Tyler.
The theme of the ad is basically ‘time travel’, because after Tyler pulls up next to Fittipaldi, he goes on to shift the Stinger into reverse and travel back to the ’70s, instead of just racing against the ex-F1 champ.
Kia managed to bring Tyler’s 25-year old persona to life with the help of CGI, and the result is quite impressive. The automaker also went with a cinematic remix of “Dream On”, one of Aerosmith’s biggest hits, as the soundtrack.
“The Stinger is the dream car driving enthusiasts have been longing for with its head-turning design, premium amenities and heart-pounding power at an incredibly value-packed price,” stated Kia marketing VP Saad Chehab. “As one of the youngest mainstream car companies in the U.S., our youth – and the fearlessness that comes with it – is Kia’s strength, and the youthful mindset we share with Steven Tyler and Emerson Fittipaldi is on full display in our Super Bowl ad.”
The 2018 Kia Stinger GT was designed in Frankfurt and developed at the Nurburgring. Available in both rear and all-wheel drive, it is powered by a 365 HP twin turbo V6 and is capable of hitting 60 mph (96 km/h) in 4.7 seconds before maxing out at 167 mph (268 km/h).
The ad will air during the third quarter of Super Bowl LII, set to take place on February 4th between the New England Patriots and the Philadelphia Eagles.
