The 2019 Mercedes-AMG G63 that has just been revealed by the German automaker might just be the best of its kind, with a potent powertrain and chassis tweaks wrapped under an aggressive design.
It’s based on the all-new G-Class and was unveiled earlier today prior to its public premiere at the 2018 Geneva Motor Show in just a few weeks.
So, what makes it so special? Well, for starters there’s a beefed up body kit, Panamericana grille, specific wheels, dual exhaust pipes on each side, and an updated cabin.
And that’s not all, because the all-new G63 is supposed to handle, too, thanks to the tweaked chassis, new suspension and three locking differentials. It also gets better brakes and off-roading enthusiasts will be glad to know that the low-range transmission remains on the options’ list.
However, it wouldn’t really be an AMG without a potent engine, and just like the entire modern ’63’ range, it uses Merc’s 4.0-liter twin-turbo V8. The unit is good for 585PS (577hp) and 850Nm (627lb-ft) of torque and is mated toh a nine-speed dual-clutch automatic transmission to channel the output to the new 4Matic AWD system developed by AMG.
The official 0-100km/h (0-62mph) time is 4.5 seconds and top speed is electronically limited at 220km/h (137mph). Still, opt for the AMG Driver’s Package and the limiter will be lifted to 240km/h (149mph).
Until getting the chance to see it live in early March during the Swiss automotive event, enthusiasts can check out the new Mercedes-AMG G63 in the three official videos that follow.
