After the Washington D.C. government, who gave The Boring Company the green light to start digging for a tunnel, Elon Musk has also been given a license to conduct a study aiming to create a Hyperloop that will allow users to travel between Cleveland and Chicago in as little as 28 minutes.

Late last week, Hyperloop Transportation Technologies announced that it had signed agreements with the Northeast Ohio Areawide Coordinating Agency (NOACA) and the Illinois Department of Transportation to study several potential routes between the two cities.

Alongside Hyperloop One, Hyperloop Transportation Technologies is one of the two major companies to spawn out of Elon Musk’s idea for the revolutionary form of transport a few years ago. Musk recently confirmed that he, too. is looking at creating his own Hyperloop.

NOACA director Grace Gallucci recently revealed to Cleveland.com that the agency will pay up to $600,000 for its share in the feasibility study.

“It’s really exciting to be collaborating with Hyperloop Transportation Technologies and IDOT to make better, faster and more efficient transportation between Chicago and Cleveland a reality,” Gallucci said.

The analysis will take between six and 12 months and examine potential routes as well as the cost, ridership, and possible station locations. In theory, a Hyperloop could make a trip between Cleveland and Chicago achievable in just 28 minutes.

Meanwhile, Hyperloop One is exploring 10 locations around the world which it plans to investigate.
