Remember the Model X that pulled a Volvo semi truck up a snow-covered hill in North Carolina last month? What a breeze that was, though the semi was using its own power as well, trying to help out as much as possible.
The owner of this Tesla Model X however, wanted to one-up his North American counterpart, and tow a 95,000 lbs (43,000 kg) Volvo semi in slippery conditions, while the latter remained in neutral. Unlike with the aforementioned attempt, this Tesla also had proper snow tires on, just so it wouldn’t struggle as much.
The stunt took place at the Vålerbanen test track in Norway, and as you can see, everything went smoothly. And while the level terrain definitely helped, it shouldn’t take anything away from the Model X’s impressive achievement, since the all-electric SUV is supposed to tow a maximum of 5,000 lbs (2.2 tonnes), according to Tesla.
Still, towing a semi truck is by no means any sort of a record for a high-powered, modern-day SUV. After all, not only did a VW Touareg V10 TDI once successfully tow a Boeing 747, but a Porsche Cayenne Diesel went one better by pulling a 628,317 lbs (285 tonne) Airbus A380 that’s considerably bigger and heavier than the Boeing.
