Modern cars are getting so complicated and hard to work on that mechanics will need a degree in computer science to fix even minor issues. The situation is even worse for the average enthusiast, as more electronics and more compact packaging means that simple jobs could take hours and special tools.
Clearly, that’s not an issue for those that can get their hands on a classic Jeep. The following video was posted on Reddit under the subreddit of r/interstingasfu** and it’s pretty straightforward: a team of eight people take a running Jeep and disassemble it in under one minute. While there’s some argument in the comments section on what constitutes a running vehicle, the Jeep is clearly traveling on its own.
The hood is the first thing to come out, then the radiator and then the body. After that, the team stripped it down to a rolling chassis in less than 30 seconds!
After the removal of a couple of bolts, the front and rear axles come off, leaving enough room for the team to strategically place two large poles into the engine and lift the sucker out. At the end of the video, it looks like the crew’s still working on the wheels, so they could be trying to break things down even more.
While the breakdown is impressive, Reddit user sbear37 provided some more information on the video that brings things into context. First of all, the eight-man team are a group of technicians with the Royal Canadian Electrical and Mechanical Engineers (RCEME). Moreover, the modified Jeep is called the “Jiffy Jeep” and has been altered to make the work a lot easier. So, you won’t be able to do this with a new Wrangler.
According to The Maple Leaf, the team is able to disassemble and reassemble the vehicle in two minutes and 39 seconds. Even if the vehicle’s been modified to make it easier to take apart and put back together, it’s still impressive to watch – which you can do by scrolling down.
