Cadillac President Johan de Nysschen recently used the 2018 Automotive Forum in New York to reveal the automaker will launch a new halo vehicle that will “stun the world.”
At the time, de Nysschen declined to elaborate but it now appears the model won’t arrive until after 2022. This isn’t too surprising as the company used the unveiling of the 2019 XT4 to reveal the brand is embarking on a “dramatic expansion and elevation of the product range.” This will see Cadillac introduce an all-new model nearly every six months through 2021.
Automotive News reports the next model will be a large crossover that could be unveiled later this year with either the XT6 or XT7 moniker. Shortly afterwards, we can expect the CT5 to debut as a replacement for the ATS and CTS. The company is also working on a new Escalade and an entry-level sedan to battle the Audi A3 and Mercedes CLA.
de Nysschen told the publication after these mainstream vehicles are introduced, Cadillac and its dealers will be in a better position to sell future products such as the mysterious halo vehicle.
Little is known about the model but de Nysschen previously said “I do not think the world needs yet another large, three box conventional sedan.” This suggests the company will shy away from a flagship sedan to battle luxury stalwarts such as the Audi A8, BMW 7-Series and Mercedes S-Class.
Besides talking about the halo vehicle, de Nysschen said Cadillac will offer a number of electric vehicles as part of GM’s plan to launch at least 20 eco-friendly models by 2023. These could include three luxury crossovers – ranging from compact to large – and a “low roof” model which could be a coupe.
