Land Rover shocked everyone when it unveiled the Defender Works V8. The special-edition 4×4 was a way for the company to celebrate its 70th birthday and commemorate some of its earliest models.

At roughly $207,250, though, there’s no denying that it is a pricey take on an old, and practically discontinued, vehicle. Is the Defender Works V8 worth that kind of money? That’s the question that Harry Metcalfe, former Evo Editor and renowned supercar owner from Harry’s Garage plans to answer in his latest video.

As a quick recap, the Works V8 is a steroid-injected classic Defender. The heart of the SUV is a 5.0-liter V8 that makes 400 horsepower and 380 pound-feet of torque and, what’s more, it is matched to an eight-speed ZF automatic transmission. Quite modern features for what, at its core, is a 70-year-old design.

It also has better brakes, upgraded suspension components and massive all-terrain tires. While those updates are mostly hidden away under the SUV’s body, the interior sports things that owners will surely appreciate like Recaro seats, an updated infotainment system and some upscale trim.

Understandably, people got excited. Despite its hefty price tag, all 150 examples of the Defender Works V8 were accounted for just a month after the vehicle’s release.

After watching Metcalfe’s review, you can see why. As a man that knows his Land Rovers, he claims that the 150 individuals that managed to get a Defender Works V8 will love it, because it’s unlike any other Defender ever made.
