Hyundai has rolled out two tempting new versions of the i30 recently. There’s the performance-oriented i30 N hot hatch, and the sleek i30 Fastback. Now the two are coming together in one package that promises to be as stylish as it is fast.
Following earlier spy shots captured in Germany, the forthcoming Hyundai i30 N Fastback has now been spotted undergoing cold-weather testing in the snow.
Into the streamlined form, Hyundai is expected to pack the same mechanical bits as the hot hatch. That means a 2.0-liter turbo four, offering 246 horsepower (250 in metric terms) or as much as 271 hp (275 ps) with the optional Performance Package.
Either way, it comes mated to a six-speed manual transmission, much to the delight of old-school driving enthusiasts. That ought to deliver similar performance to the i30 N hatch, which launches itself to 62 miles per hour (100 km/h) in a tick over six seconds.
Along with the more potent engine, the Fastback looks set to incorporate an upgraded aero package, uprated rolling stock, and bigger brakes to keep it all in check.
Between the Veloster N sport hatch, the i30 N hatchback, and the new i30 N Fastback, Hyundai’s performance lineup is expanding at a suitably rapid pace. A similar treatment is expected to be offered on the upcoming facelifted version of the Tucson as well, which only stands to broaden the range that much further.
Whether we’ll see the i30 N Fastback in Geneva this week, we don’t know. But you can bet that, whenever it does surface, it won’t be the last one of Hyundai’s models to get the N treatment.
