The McLaren Senna is a good example of what an automaker can do once it leaves all prejudices aside.

Not design-wise, because it’s not the prettiest hypercar out there, but from a performance point of view.

The company claims that, despite being street-legal, the Senna can lap any circuit faster than the track-only P1 GTR. And with a 800kg (1,764lbs) of downforce at 250km/h (155mph), 0-100km/h (0-62mph) sprint in 2.8 seconds and a top speed of 340km/h (211mph), it’s not hard to believe it.

Its twin-turbo 4.0-liter V8 delivers 800PS (789hp) and 800Nm (590lb-ft) of torque to the rear wheels via a seven-speed dual-clutch automatic gearbox.

McLaren fans with deep pockets were also able to order one of the 75 Senna GTRs that will be made. This is a true track-only hypercar equipped with plenty of updates over the street-legal version – but since all of them are already spoken for, interested parties (and, according to McLaren, they were a lot) will have to resort to the ‘used’ car market.

In the meantime, the team from Woking continues to put the Senna through its paces in different environments all around the globe.

Their journey took them to South Africa, recently, where the hypercar ran at the Kyalami circuit and McLaren saw another opportunity to drop a new video with the Senna going flat-out and the brand’s Senior Test Driver Gareth Howell talking about it.
