One way to look at the new Mercedes-AMG GT 4-Door Coupe is as a hyper CLS, which, in turn, is a sportier version of the latest E-Class.
But that’s not how Affalterbach sees it. According to Merc’s performance division, it “draws directly on the legendary SLS and AMG GT models” and “is the first four-door sports car” from AMG.
Regardless of how it is described, it’s hard to deny the obvious: despite the unusual name, the new Mercedes-AMG GT 4-Door Coupe is a very exciting car. It’s one of Mercedes’ most important premieres of the year, and it currently dominates the AMG family in terms of power.
The official 0-62mph (0-100km/h) sprint takes just 3.2 seconds, or 0.2 seconds slower than the Ferrari 488 GTB. Top speed stands at 195mph (315km/h) in the ‘S’ model, which has 630hp (639PS) and 663lb-ft (900Nm) of torque.
Even the non-S version is more powerful than the Mercedes-AMG GT R, making 576hp (585PS) and 590lb-ft (800Nm) of torque from the same twin-turbo 4.0-liter V8.
Unveiled at the 2018 Geneva Motor Show earlier this week, the new GT 4-Door Coupe is being celebrated by the manufacturer in the three videos that you can watch right after the break.
