Nissan plans on selling one electrified vehicles annually by the 2022 financial year.
The announcement of this goal comes part of the brand’s M.O.V.E. to 2022 midterm plan which will see Nissan develop eight new all-electric vehicles to sit alongside the Leaf in its range.
Also on the horizon for Nissan is to launch “an electric car offensive in China under different brands” while also introducing an electric kei car in Japan. A global crossover electric vehicle, inspired by the Nissan IMx Concept is also set to arrive in the short term. The M.O.V.E. plan also includes the previously-announced plan to electrify the entire Infiniti range from 2021.
Electrification isn’t the only aspect of Nissan’s plans. By 2022, the brand will deploy ProPILOT technology in 20 models in 20 markets and by the same year, intends on selling one million ProPILOT-equipped vehicles annually.
“Our product and technology strategy is dedicated to positioning Nissan to lead the automotive, technology and business evolution. Our efforts are focused on delivering Nissan Intelligent Mobility, encompassing the three core elements of electrification, autonomous drive, connectivity and new mobility services,” said Nissan chief planning officer Philippe Klein.
By 2022, Nissan expects 40 per cent of its sales in Europe and Japan to be made up of electrified vehicles. This figure will rise to 50 per cent by 2025. For Infiniti, it anticipates 50 per cent of its models sold to be electrified within four years.
