Volvo announced that the new XC40 will be featured in the upcoming Tomb Raider movie as Lara Croft’s personal ride.
The Swedish carmaker even created an online ‘Lara Croft’ configuration for fans looking to buy the same XC40 shown in the movie. Speaking of which, the movie car is a UK-spec Volvo XC40 White R-Design.
The new Swedish sub-compact SUV is expected to challenge the likes of the BMW X2 and Mercedes GLA, once it enters the US market this spring.
It will be powered by a turbocharged 2.0-liter four-cylinder engine that produces 247hp (250PS) and 258lb-ft (349Nm) of torque. Paired to it is an eight-speed automatic transmission that sends power to all four wheels.
Volvo joins a long list of automakers that choose Holywood for the marketing of their new models. The latest example of this strategy belongs to Lexus, which had a specially prepared LC Coupe starring next to Marvel’s Black Panther.
“We’re very excited for the Volvo XC40 to have its film debut with Tomb Raider,” said Bob Jacobs, Vice President, Marketing, Product and Brand Communication, Volvo Car USA. “One of the things we love about the film is Lara Croft’s character: bold, surprising and always ready for adventure, just like the Volvo XC40.”
Tomb Raider hits theaters across the US on March 16.
