The Nurburgring, one of the world’s most famous race tracks, is also one of those places where you really don’t want to be skidding uncontrollably off the tarmac.
The main issue, as many have found out over the years, is that unlike most conventional circuits, the Nordschleife has very short, or no, runoff areas, depending on which part you are driving, so cars can rarely get out of the way during accidents like this one.
At the same time, there’s not a lot of room to recover if you’re already in a slide, and we have certainly seen our fair share of accidents that could have ended very differently had there been more room for the driver to maneuver or brake. But hey, there’s a reason why the call it the Green Hell, right?
On this particular occasion, you can see how the driver of that BMW 3-Series had zero chance to recover. Even if there weren’t any cars in its path, it would have hit the barrier just as hard.
We really feel for the car that got hit though, since it had already lost control and crashed. But at least the dashcam car made it out of that situation unscathed.
The driver of the Golf actually did a good job under braking – but we guess lady luck also had something to do with the VW not being involved in the accident.
