Porsche’s quite proud of its new 911 GT3 RS – and why shouldn’t it be? The German automaker has a history of making track monsters that are engaging, blisteringly quick and relatively affordable. Its latest creation is arguably its most potent variation of the 911 and Porsche let the beast loose on a frozen lake in Finland.
One thing that annoys many people at official videos is the music that plays in the background. They’ll take an amazing car and drown out the incredible engine with a horrible soundtrack. But Porsche’s latest video doesn’t suffer from that issue, as the automaker lets the naturally-aspirated 4.0-liter flat-six do the singing; and boy is the tune the motor’s putting out a real tearjerker.
Watch: Porsche’s 911 GT3 RS takes on the, almost invincible, McLaren 720S
The flat-six in the 911 GT3 RS has a pure sound that other automakers haven’t been able to replicate. The fact that the engine cranks out 520 horsepower and 346 pound-feet of torque doesn’t hurt, either.
The GT3 RS may have its engine hanging out back, which helps in giving the car traction, yet it’s still more than capable of getting sideways, which is evident in the video below. The drifts, though, seem to be quite methodical. Then again, with no other than the legendary Walter Röhrl behind the wheel, that comes as no surprise.
It sure is loads of fun and the video shows us that the 911 GT3 RS, and Porsche, has a laid back side. The supercar may be all about setting quick lap times, but it clearly knows how to let its hair down and have some fun. So, put aside six minutes to watch the video because, well, it’s definitely worth it.
