The all-new Mercedes-AMG G63 is a force of nature. It looks great, packs the latest tech, and can make significant straight line progress regardless of the road surface it’s on.

In the official specs released during the car’s introduction a couple of months ago, the star brand mentions a staggering 4.5sec required for the 0 to 100km/h (0-62mph) sprint. But what exactly is it that makes it staggering? Well, in case you forgot, this used to be supercar-territory until not that long ago.

2017 Mercedes-Benz G-Class: Five Final Impressions

The new Mercedes-AMG G63 weighs 2,560kg (5,644lbs), though it has the muscle to compensate: 585PS (577hp / 430kW) and 850Nm (627lb-ft) of torque from a twin-turbo V8 engine, married to a nine-speed automatic gearbox. Flat out, it will do 220km/h (137mph), or 240km/h (149mph) with the AMG Driver’s Package.

Of course, these numbers may be hard to swallow, unless they’re experienced first-hand – luckily we have come across a video that shows Stuttgart’s new super SUV accelerating close to 200km/h (0-124mph).

Moreover, the video was shot at night, somewhere on a public road, which makes the entire experience slightly intimidating. However, for the ultimate thrill, you may want to adjust the volume on your speakers in order to hear that monstrous V8 in all its glory.
