Alibaba will supply its artificial intelligence technology to Daimler, Audi, and Volvo for home-to-vehicle connectivity in China.
Alibaba’s AI + Car System, the work of its artificial intelligence unit A.I. Labs, provides users with the ability to talk with their cars through the internet giant’s digital assistant device, Tmall Genie. People can therefore operate the vehicle’s door locks, turn on the air conditioning, and make navigation inputs from a remote location, Automotive News reports.
The system also uses voice recognition technology to make it even easier to use.
“Cars are an environment, alongside the home and the office, where individuals spend a significant amount of time, and which through connectivity can become an important part of life,” head of Alibaba A.I. Labs Chen Lijuan said.
“Identifying how to serve car users with Tmall Genie’s skillsets is one of our top priorities.
“We hope the collaboration can create a more intelligent and personalized mobility experience for consumers and enhance users’ commute by exploring more AI-powered services.”
In the future, Alibaba intends on adding more advanced natural language processing features and speech interaction into the AI system.
Daimler and Audi have yet to specify which of its models will incorporate Tmall Genie. However, Volvo has revealed that it will deploy the service on the XC90, S90, and XC60.
